Sustaining Yourself and Your Staff
During Unprecedented Times

Presented by the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing

Back in March, your staff said good-bye to students for what we thought was a short-term remote learning experience. Six months later, the school year is starting in a much different way than years past. The pandemic has resulted in layers of loss: loss of routine, loss of connection, loss of rituals and of course, loss of life. The individual impact of the loss varies based on situation and circumstances . . . but the entire world is grieving at the same time. Every student and staff member at your school is having a grief experience and yet, learning must continue. This is complicated. How do you support staff that is at once impacted by grief and launching a new way of learning? How do you support staff that is supporting students who are grieving? And how do you sustain yourself so you are available to lead?

This 90-minute workshop will frame COVID as a grief and trauma experience and provide language to better understand the parallel grief process occurring at your school (leadership, staff, student/family.) Understanding COVID through the lens of grief helps increase compassion which ultimately increases productivity as staff and students feel seen and heard. Specific strategies to sustain self and staff during this unprecedented time will be discussed.

This session is for AISGW school leaders (Heads of School, Assistant Heads, and Division Leaders).

The workshop will be led by the Wendt Center’s lead trainer, Melissa Sellevaag.

Cost: $45 per person, to be billed separately after the event.
