Do you have someone on your faculty or staff with leadership potential or who’s thinking about a leadership role in independent schools? If so, consider sending them to AISGW’s Emerging Leaders Institute.

What does the Emerging Leaders Institute offer?

  • Nine sessions around key areas of leadership, including leading change, fostering belonging, developing faculty, and overseeing school program, among others
  • Opportunity to collaborate with fellow cohort members to lead and facilitate one session
  • Up-close exposure to insights, advice, and stories from a panel of wise veterans in current leadership roles at AISGW schools
  • Opportunity to develop a personalized Plan for Leadership and customized leadership goals
  • A one-on-one mentoring conversation with a member of the advisory faculty
  • Establishment of a network of colleagues and mentors
  • Introduction to other schools in the greater DC area

When and where does the Institute meet?

This year's Institute will be hybrid. We will meet on the following Wednesdays: Jan. 18th, Feb.1st, Feb.15th (virtual), Feb. 22nd, March 8th (virtual), April 5th, April 19th, May 3rd (virtual), and May 17th. In-person meetings will take place at AISGW schools located throughout the DMV. Zoom sessions will run from 4:00-5:30 p.m., and in-person sessions will run from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Please note that the first and last sessions will conclude with a social event in the form of dinner and/or a reception.

Who runs the Institute?

With the support of AISGW, the Institute is run by M.A. Mahoney, Dean of Academics and Student Success at the Madeira School, and Malcolm McCluskey, Head of Upper School at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. They’ll be joined by an experienced faculty advisory of leaders from Landon School, St. Andrew's Episcopal School, St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School, and Congressional School, among others.

What are my responsibilities as a cohort member?

Participants are expected to attend all sessions (recognizing that unexpected emergencies may arise) and engage fully in the exploration of the syllabus topics. Each cohort member is expected to collaborate with one or two other members of the cohort to lead a curriculum unit chosen from the syllabus. Some cohort members may be asked to host the group at their school.
