Do you have someone on your faculty or staff with leadership potential or who’s thinking about a leadership role in independent schools? If so, consider sending them to AISGW’s Emerging Leaders Institute.

What does the Emerging Leaders Institute offer?

  • Nine sessions around key areas of leadership including building trust, leading change, fostering belonging, developing faculty, and overseeing curriculum, among others

  • Opportunity to collaborate with fellow cohort members to lead and facilitate one session

  • Up-close exposure to insights, advice, and stories from a panel of wise veterans in current leadership roles at AISGW schools

  • Opportunity to develop a personalized Plan for Leadership and customized leadership goals

  • Establishment of a network of colleagues and mentors

  • Introduction to other schools in the greater DC area

When and where does the Institute meet?

This year's Institute will be hybrid. We will meet on the following dates: January 19th, February 2nd, February 16th, March 2nd, March 9th, April 13th, April 20th, May 4th, and May 18th. In-person meetings will take place at AISGW schools located throughout the DMV. Zoom sessions will run from 4:00-5:30 and in-person sessions will run from 4:00-6:00.

Who runs the Institute?

With the support of AISGW, the Institute is run by M.A. Mahoney, Dean of Faculty and Academics at the Madeira School, and Malcolm McCluskey, Head of Upper School at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. They’ll be joined by experienced faculty advisor-leaders from Flint Hill School, Landon, McLean School, St. Andrew's Episcopal School, and St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School.

What are my responsibilities as a cohort member?

Each cohort member is expected to collaborate with one or two other members of the cohort to lead a curriculum unit chosen from the syllabus. Some cohort members may be asked to host the group at their school. Participants are expected to attend all sessions (recognizing that unexpected emergencies may arise) and engage fully in the exploration of the syllabus topics.

How much does the Institute cost?

The program fee is $600 for all nine sessions.

How do I register?

Typically there are more registrations than spaces available for this program so be aware that participation is not guaranteed. AISGW will select a cohort that represents a diverse range of schools and school roles. We will also maintain a waitlist in the event that registrants' plans change. In previous years, we have typically been able to accommodate one or two people from the waitlist.
