December 7th- Special session for school heads- Fostering a Sense of Belonging For Your Faculty and Staff of Color: A Conversation About Recruitment, Support, and Retention with Nishant Mehta

As part of their overall objective to creating a culture of inclusion and belonging, many schools accelerated their approach during the 2020-21 school year to recruiting and retaining faculty and staff of color. While the desired outcome is clear, the journey itself is still fuzzy. Join Nishant Mehta for a conversation that will empower school leaders to create an intentional, strategic and sustainable process for the recruitment, retention, and support of their faculty and staff of color. We will discuss specific actions that advance deep reflection of the institutional mission and values; possible strategies and resources for execution; and a differentiated, flexible approach that builds in clear accountability for school leadership.

AISGW is pleased to offer this fall subscription series, “Building Belonging,” to support our member schools’ diversity, equity and inclusion work. The goal of this series is to provide deeper learning opportunities for educators who are working to create more inclusive school communities. We hope that these offerings can meet much of a school’s professional development needs in the area of DEI.

What does the subscription include and how much does it cost?

The series includes seven workshops covering a range of DEI topics (see below). By registering for the series, a school can send an unlimited number of participants -- from administrators to trustees to classroom teachers -- to each of the listed sessions for one flat fee. The subscription fee is $675 per school. Please note that due to the nature of the topic, the sessions will not be recorded.

How do I register my school for the series?

As part of registration, participant schools will appoint a contact person who will coordinate internally with members of your school community who plan to attend the series. The contact person could be the DEI director, heads' assistant, professional development leader, assistant head -- whoever makes sense for your school! The contact person will receive the Zoom link before each session and distribute the link as well as any related program materials to your school's attendees.

What are the session topics and when will the sessions be offered?

Sessions will be offered twice monthly at 4:00 pm for either 60 or 90 minutes from late September to December. All sessions will take place virtually. The sessions are intended for heads of school, trustees, division leaders, DEI practitioners, counselors, and in some cases, teacher-leaders. Schools may determine who they would like to attend each session and there will be no limit on the number of attendees per school.
